Sat, 12 September 2009 Ever wonder what an inside out anus looks like? Listen and you may find out. Tonight we cover such diverse topics as 40K and 40K and yet more 40K. Joined by Casey and Nick, we delve into the painting of Planetary Empires and the fun that can be had. We also find out Skrivus is 'that guy' (on some level) and that Richard can be a poor sport. For the second segment we get into the playing of Planetary Empires and talk about 4 battles for PE involving our 750 lists. We also discuss what went right and what went wrong in our buffed up lists. In this segment, we find out that Dan is a list-tooling douche. And the third segment is comprised of an email by Raistlin inviting Richard and Dan out to dinner with his wife - we accepted. We also get into some over-rated/under-rated about Librarians and uberlists and round things out with "Did You Know?" This episode comes with the FDA stamp of approval concerning maximum fecal matter levels for general consumption. As usual, these are the show notes so that I don't forget what we did. Expect the actual show within about 16 hours. Comments[5] |
Hi guys,
Longish time listener first time poster.
Just thought i would inform you that you CAN actually assault disembarked transport passengers after blowing it up with the same unit that shot the transport.
Refer to page 67, Damage effects on Passengers.
The only thing stopping you assaulting the transported unit would be if u used a rapid fire or heavy weapon. Note of course they will count as being in cover, in difficult and dangerous terrain.
Anywho, my 2c
cheers

Page 67 says you may assault the troops _if allowed_ by the assault rules. Assault rules prevent assaulting a different unit than was shot at. GW FAQ makes it clear that transports and troops inside are separate units. Therefore, the podcast was correct, you cannot shoot the transport then assault the troops.
By that definition the paragraph on page 67 is totally redundant and useless.
"However, if a transport is destroyed (either result), by a ranged attack, the unit that shot it may now assault the disembarked passengers, if it is allowed to assault according to the assault rules."
Why would they say that the unit is allowed to assault if it actually isn't allowed (according to earlier 'who can assault' rules)?
I read this as an exception to the normal assault rules. It describes transported units as 'co existing' with their transport.
The only other things that prevent the assault are described earlier in the assault section having shot rapid-fire, heavy etc.)
In this instance transports are a different case for the purpose of being a 'separate' unit.
The reference to them being separate (FAQ) is only for both the transport and units own shooting phase, it has no bearing on it being a target.

I think it's pretty clear that they intend for you to be able to assault the unit that got out of the transport. Anyone who argues against it is just trying to nitpick the clear written rules.

Hi Mack!
Finally, an opinion of yours i can finally vehemently agree with! :P
Hehe.
Just another thing based on this cast, with Tricky Dicks game and alleged unsportmanlike stuff.
I feel it is always a problem when two people come to a gaming table, to play 40k, but end up playing 2 different games. Its one of the reasons i am selective with tournaments i go to and rarely if ever play pickup games otherwise.
Fortunately my gaming crew is a reasonable size and after some major efforts (mostly on my part) in coming up with campaigns and fun scenarios, we all tend to play games on the same page now.
